Nintendo has released a new software update for Metroid Dread, which now sees the game on version 1.0.1.

This has addressed a progression-blocking bug that could result in the game forcefully closing with the message: “The software was closed because an error occurred.” There are also “several other issues” that have been fixed, but specifics about what these were has not been shared.

Metroid Dread is now available exclusively for Nintendo Switch worldwide.

Metroid Dread Update Version 1.0.1 Patch Notes

General Fixes
  • Fixed an issue where, if a map marker is placed on a specific door on the map screen (the door destroyed with the beam obtained at the end of the game), destroying that door at the end of the game would cause the game to forcefully quit with the message “The software was closed because an error occurred”.
  • Fixed several other issues to improve overall gameplay experience.

  1. I’m with Mr. Will here. I’d also appreciate extra colors and skins for Samus as a bonus for completing the game.

  2. Awesome. What about it making my screen blink on and off from overheating my switch? And how about we also update the game to not have half of the game be 50% black? Amazing backgrounds but the foreground cut aways are lifeless which is very unmetroid. Please fix that.
