Konami has scored success with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain in their home territory, with Hideo Kojima’s parting release comfortably securing the top spot in Media Create’s weekly sales chart.
The open world stealth title provided a considerable boost to PlayStation 4 sales, which jumped from 18,539 units the prior week to a whopping 54,494 units. That was reflected in the game’s sales, where PlayStation 4 copies outpaced the PlayStation 3 version by nearly three-to-one.
Software on Nintendo’s systems still performed admirably, with Dragon Quest VIII, Yo-kai Watch Busters and Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer rounding out the top five. Whereas the ink-tastic Splatoon continues to prove itself to be a steady seller for the company, presumably due to both marketing activities and word of mouth.
However, hardware sales fell across the board. The Nintendo 3DS family of systems sold 34,756 units, with Wii U shifting 10,232 units alone. That was down from 48,919 and 11,781 units respectively, compared to the week before.
