The Pokémon Company International have today revealed that Rayquaza, the third legendary to appear in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, can undergo Mega Evolution.

Unlike other Pokémon, Rayquaza, which is said to be connected with the mysteries of Mega Evolution, can achieve this in a unique way “due to its unique biology” although we’ll have to wait for the game’s late November launch to find out.

While Rayquaza already has high Attack and Sp. Atk stats, these, as well as others, are all significantly boosted when it Mega Evolves. Mega Rayquaza will have a new Ability called Delta Stream, which summons strong winds that affect the weather.

These can only be dispelled by a very limited number of Pokémon, but when active will cause the moves Rain Dance, Sunny Day, Sandstorm, and Hail to fail. The Abilities Drizzle, Drought, Sand Stream, and Snow Warning will also fail to activate, whereas moves of a type that Flying-type Pokémon are usually weak to will only deal normal damage to any Flying-type Pokémon in the battle.

Rayquaza can also learn the new Dragon Ascent move, that it alone can use. This has one of the greatest power ratings of all Flying-type moves, and it apparently has a majestic animation. Rayquaza will soar up to the heavens before crashing to the ground to deal massive damage on its opponent.

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire will release in Japan, Australia and North America on November 21st, and Europe on November 28th.
