It won’t only be Mewtwo that will see unique Mega Evolutions differentiated between copies of Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, with Nintendo today revealing Mega Charizard X.

Unveiled during a the special airing of Pokémon Origins within Japan, the blue-flamed alternate made for a rather surprising announcement that has seen Pokémon Japan’s site crash in the wake of the news.

Once players have obtained a Charizardite X, your Charizard will then be able to undergo a evolution to Mega Charizard X, becoming a Fire and Dragon-type – its body turning black and its flames burn blue with increased heat.

With a significantly increased Attack statistic, its Ability changes to Tough Claws which raises the power of moves that make direct contact. This will come in handy when it uses Dragon-type move Dragon Tail, which does damage and can force an opposing Pokémon to switch out during battle.
