Veteran voice actor Matthew Mercer has confirmed that he has lent his talent to voicing Ganondorf in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Known to Nintendo fans as the voice behind Fire Emblem Awakening‘s Chrom, his other roles have included Yusuke Kitagawa in Persona 5 Royal, the narrator in No More Heroes III and fan-favourite Levi Ackerman in the Attack on Titan anime series.
“I just got the go-ahead from Nintendo, so I can FINALLY announce my absolute pleasure to be voicing Ganondorf in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. An immense honor that I have thrown myself into doing justice,” the actor revealed on Twitter.
“I have been an immense Legend of Zelda fan since I was a child, and Ganondorf has been one of my favorite antagonists… to the point where I portrayed this green-skinned menace for my webseries over a decade ago!
“Many of you know the weight of expectation on my shoulders for this, and I hope to do you proud. A huge thank you to Nintendo and the entire Tears of the Kingdom team for entrusting me with such a badass.”
In a recent gameplay demonstration, The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma revealed the new powers that Link will have at his disposal in this latest open-air adventure.
These include Recall which rewinds an object’s movement, Fuse that lets you stick objects together to create new weapons, Ultrahand which lets you attach resources such as logs to create makeshift vehicles, and Ascend where, if you are in a location with a ceiling, you can use it to essentially warp up to the floor above you.
The anticipated sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will take you across the land and skies of Hyrule, where you will once again have the chance to chart your own path through its sprawling landscapes and mysterious floating islands. You will need to harness the power of Link’s new abilities to fight against the malevolent forces threatening the kingdom.
The company recently revealed the game’s amiibo support and plans to produce the Nintendo Switch OLED Model – The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, a themed Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Collector’s Edition, which will include a physical copy of the game, an artbook with concept art, a SteelBook case, an Iconart steel poster and a set of four pin badges.
