Thunderful, Headup Games and Team Meat have revealed that Dr. Fetus’ Mean Meat Machine will release on Nintendo Switch later this year.

Set in the Super Meat Boy universe, this match-4 puzzler has been given a unique twist by Meat Boy’s archnemesis Dr. Fetus to deliver a “one-of-a-kind blend of puzzle and action gameplay.”

Taking place right after the events in Super Meat Boy Forever, after meticulously analysing Meat Boy the nefarious Dr. Fetus now has all the data that he needs to create the perfect clone. However, the DNA sample he has collected isn’t a perfect specimen which yields some less-than-perfect clones. His solution is to create a bunch of ruthless test chambers to weed out the worst clones from the best ones.

That will see you puzzle your way through more than 100 handcrafted levels based in familiar Super Meat Boy and Super Meat Boy Forever locations such as the picturesque forest, the hospital and salt factory, set against a soundtrack from RIDICULON.

“We’ve had a fantastic relationship with Team Meat going back over a decade and it’s been a real pleasure to take that to the next level and work in collaboration with them to create Dr. Fetus’ Mean Meat Machine,” explains Headup Games head of development Mark Aldrup. “Working together has allowed us to capture the hardcore essence of Meat Boy and bring it to a completely new genre to create a puzzle title unlike anything else out there.”

Team Meat co-founder Tommy Refenes adds: “When Headup approached us with this idea for a match-4 puzzle game, we fell in love with it. We merged their programming and design with our art and design skills and now we have this wickedly fun and beautiful puzzle game coming to PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and PC that we never would have even considered making if not for their amazing prototype. I can’t wait for people to play it!”

Dr. Fetus’ Mean Meat Machine will release digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide in 2023.
