Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle On Nintendo Switch Rumours Swirl Once Again

It was late last year that we had first heard about Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, a collaboration between Ubisoft and Nintendo that will see the crazed Rabbids invade the Mushroom Kingdom.

Kotaku has now added more weight to that rumour, after an undisclosed source had shared art assets for the Nintendo Switch exclusive.

The crossover RPG is scheduled to release in August or September and has been developed using Ubisoft’s proprietary Snowdrop engine. That engine has been used for Tom Clancy’s The Division, South Park: The Fractured but Whole and a project that ties in with the Avatar film franchise, meaning that it is promising news that the publisher has been able to use it with Nintendo Switch.

The art assets point to turn-based combat, two-player local co-op and general silliness, with Mario and pals seen wielding laser beams. There will be eight playable characters: Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Peach and four Rabbids dressed up as the Mushroom Kingdom characters.

We have also previously heard that composer Grant Kirkhope was involved with the Mushroom Kingdom mash-up, who will be known to many for his work on Banjo-Kazooie, Viva Piñata and, most recently, Yooka-Laylee.
