We’re still excitedly speeding our way around the Mushroom Kingdom, thanks to Mario Kart 8’s futuristic anti-gravity fuelled races. But for those that still frequent coin-op arcades, Mario Kart Arcade GP DX has belatedly been treated to a significant update.
This brings Bandai Namco’s take on the kart racer in line with what was added to units in Japan last year, such as Metal Mario, Rosalina, Mirror Mode, and improved drift mechanics that can now reward players with an extra boost.
Arcade-exclusive items continue to expand with the Thwomp, Mega Mushroom and Gold Shells, which presumably act in the same way as the Gold Mushroom in providing unlimited use for a brief period.
Kart designs have also been heavily broadened from a meagre 22, now sitting at a mightier 120 although Bandai Namco indicate that this includes alternate colours. Whereas new picture frames, used when snapping the player’s photo to use as an avatar, will now have seasonal frames added in for Halloween, Christmas and more.
