Mario Kart 8 has become the fastest-selling Wii U title, with launch weekend sales having surpassed 1.2 million copies worldwide.
That number charts sales between Thursday 29th May to Sunday 1st June, and continues to build on the success of the series. The seven titles previously released boast combined sales of 100 million units worldwide, with Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart DS celebrating the strongest performances at retail.
“Such positive early feedback for Mario Kart 8 reinforces the great gameplay experiences that Wii U currently offers,” comments Nintendo of Europe president Satoru Shibata. “With Nintendo set to showcase its future releases at E3 next week, this is a great milestone going into the summer season.”
