Nintendo’s latest earnings release has revealed that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sales have now outsold Mario Kart Wii.

The Nintendo Switch port sold an additional 3.34 million copies in the last six months, meaning the globally popular kart racer has sold more than 38.74 million copies to date. Mario Kart Wii went on to sell 37.38 million copies worldwide, meaning that it has now been overtaken by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

In comparison, Mario Kart 8 sold 8.46 million copies, Mario Kart 7 sold 18.95 million copies and Mario Kart DS sold 23.6 million copies, meaning that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has now become the best-selling game in the series.

That isn’t the game’s only achievement, remaining in pole position as the best-selling Nintendo Switch game, with Animal Crossing: New Horizons not far behind having sold 34.85 million copies.

Nintendo has also confirmed that more than 92.87 million Nintendo Switch consoles have been sold around the world, and the company has sold more than 681 million copies of its games.
