BUCK Games has announced that its 2D platformer all about ladders, Ladder Lad, is in development for Nintendo Switch.
Set in a world that has forgotten how to jump, ladders have become the only means of achieving upward mobility. You play as Lad and will be challenged to scale a whimsical ladder-shaped tower with nothing more than a personal ladder and an aptitude for creative climbing.
Promising “physics-based chaos and slapstick comedy” and encouraging constant experimentation, your ladder can be used to bridge gaps, pole-vault into the air, bounced on like a pogo stick, ridden like a sledge. You will even need to balance at the top of it to breathe in oxygen above toxic fumes.
You can even soar above it all with an inflatable hot air balloon attachment, tunnel through danger with a non-Euclidean Warped Ladder, or fuel up the BFL (Big Flying Ladder) and hit the afterburners.
“Ladder Lad’s mix of absurdist comedy with precision ladder-based platforming makes for a truly one-of-a-kind experience,” explains BUCK Games production director Marla Anyomi. “The Lad is equally lovable, staring out from behind the rungs, ready to confront the trials and tribulations above him.”
Ladder Lad will be released digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide in 2027.
