TrampolineTales has announced that its roguelike deckbuilder Luck Be A Landlord is coming soon to Nintendo Switch.
The game, in which you use a slot machine to earn money to pay your rent, was the largest influence on the enormously successful Balatro.
With your landlord knocking on your door, you have one coin left to your name that you insert into your slot machine. While the developer is keen to indicate that the game “does not contain any real-world currency gambling or microtransactions,” your goal is to defeat capitalism to keep a roof over your head.
Starting as an optimistic renter with low payments, watch in horror as they creep higher and higher. Add symbols to the slot machine after each spin to collect coins, building funds ahead of your next due date. Celebrate high-yield turns, but beware as your luck can easily run out, resulting in empty pockets and untimely eviction.
Synergise slot symbols and special items to create lucrative chain reactions. Those include stockpiling extra coins with the Swear Jar, smashing urns with the Grave Robber, or trying to score rare symbols with the X-Ray Machine.
“We feel like we really hit the jackpot thanks to everyone’s support of Luck be a Landlord on PC and mobile, so it’s finally time to bring the terrors of tenancy to consoles!” explains TrampolineTales lead developer and founder Dan DiIorio. “We welcome console players to take a spin on the slot machine and defeat Landy McLandlord and the ruthless capitalist system once and for all!”
The developer has outlined the game’s key features, which include:
- Roguelite gameplay – The symbols you can add to the slot machine are different every time!
- Lots of Symbols to add to your slot machine – Each symbol has different effects and interactions.
- Plenty of Items to choose from – The items are different every time as well, leading to interesting build strategies.
- A terrible landlord to defeat.
- A dog you can pet.
- Capitalism.
Luck Be A Landlord will be released digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 6 February 2025.
