Lucario has been announced as the latest character to make a return in Super Smash Bros. on Wii U and 3DS, creator Masahiro Sakurai having once again shared the news as part of his daily updates.

An unlockable character in Wii’s Brawl, the dual Fighting and Steel-type Pokémon proved a, perhaps, surprisingly popular choice with players due to the character’s Aura ability. This saw the damage and knockback of its attacks heightened in direct relation to the damage percentage taken and how many stocks (lives) the player had in relation to their competitors.

“The heroic Aura Pokémon, Lucario joins the battle,” Sakurai shared on Miiverse. “We’ve increased the influence of Aura this time, so a damaged Lucario is truly a force to be reckoned with.”

He continued, “Lucario joined the battle for the first time in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which was released six years ago. The production staff of Brawl worked really hard to expand the character roster–without their efforts, Lucario probably never would have joined the battle.”

Super Smash Bros. on Wii U and 3DS are scheduled to release during 2014.
