Nintendo has announced that the release date for the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie has been “moved up,” and will now come to cinemas around the world a week earlier than planned.
“This is [Shigeru] Miyamoto,” the update on social media starts. “I would like to let you know that the worldwide theatrical release date for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda has been moved up to April 30, 2027, from May 7. The team is working hard to deliver the film to everyone as soon as possible. There’s less than a year to go until release, so thank you for waiting.”
The movie stars Bo Bragason as Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, with leaked footage from on-set filming suggesting that Severance star Dichen Lachman appears to be playing Impa.
With plans first announced back in November 2023, the film will be produced by Shigeru Miyamoto and Arad Productions chairman Avi Arad, who has worked as a producer on recent films such as Ghost In The Shell, Venom, Uncharted, Morbius and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
The film will be produced by Nintendo and Arad Productions Inc., and directed by Wes Ball. The film will be co-financed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., with more than 50% financed by Nintendo. Sony Pictures Entertainment will be responsible for the movie’s theatrical distribution worldwide.
The live-action The Legend of Zelda movie will be released worldwide on 30 April 2027.
