Nintendo has confirmed a release date for the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie, revealed through its new Nintendo Today! smart device app.
“This is Miyamoto. Did you have a chance to check out the short video we posted on Nintendo Today! a few hours ago? We announced that the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda, which I am producing with Avi Arad-san, will be released in theaters worldwide on March 26, 2027,” Nintendo posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“On the Nintendo Today! app, we will be delivering a variety of information such as this announcement ‘directly’ to all of you. We hope you will try it out.”
With plans first announced back in November 2023, the film will be produced by Shigeru Miyamoto and Arad Productions chairman Avi Arad, who has worked as a producer on recent films such as Ghost In The Shell, Venom, Uncharted, Morbius and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
The film will be produced by Nintendo and Arad Productions Inc., and directed by Wes Ball. The film will be co-financed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., with more than 50% financed by Nintendo. Sony Pictures Entertainment will be responsible for the movie’s theatrical distribution worldwide.
