Nintendo has confirmed that the release date for the live-action The Legend of Zelda movie has been delayed “for production reasons.”
In an update posted on social media, producer Shigeru Miyamoto wrote: “This is Miyamoto. For production reasons, we are changing the release date of the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda to May 7, 2027. It will be some weeks later than the release timing we originally announced, and we will take the extra time to make the film as good as it can be. Thank you for your patience.”
With plans first announced back in November 2023, the film will be produced by Shigeru Miyamoto and Arad Productions chairman Avi Arad, who has worked as a producer on recent films such as Ghost In The Shell, Venom, Uncharted, Morbius and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
The film will be produced by Nintendo and Arad Productions Inc., and directed by Wes Ball. The film will be co-financed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., with more than 50% financed by Nintendo. Sony Pictures Entertainment will be responsible for the movie’s theatrical distribution worldwide.
