Nnooo and Analgesic Productions has announced that Anodyne will release on Nintendo Switch, a classic 16-bit action-adventure to which The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening was “a major inspiration.”

The game takes place in the haunting, vibrant subconscious mind of its protagonist, Young. You must explore the natural, urban, and abstract environments to sweep away demons, defeat enemies, and solve personal puzzles with a trusty broom.

With the large overworld populated with quirky but challenging dungeons, you must clear them out while collecting cards to allow Young to grow in confidence and ability. Only then will he be ready to rescue The Legendary Briar from the Evil Darkness.

“A major inspiration for Anodyne was The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening so we think the game will resonate with Nintendo fans,” explains Nnooo business and marketing director Bruce Thomson.

“While Anodyne pays homage to the 16-bit era, Analgesic Productions have created a unique action-adventure game with their own unusual mix of darkness and humor.”

Analgesic Productions director Sean Han Tani adds: “It’s an amazing opportunity to be able to bring Anodyne to Nintendo Switch! I’m excited to have new players discover the dreamy atmosphere of Anodyne for the first time, and experience our surreal twist on the 2D Zelda genre.

“Likewise, to our longtime fans who have been eagerly anticipating this release: thank you for the support! I hope everyone will enjoy playing Anodyne on Nintendo Switch!”

Anodyne will release on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch on February 28th priced at £8.99 ($9.99/€9.99/AU$14.99), with pre-orders open from February 21st.
