Versus Evil and Hilltop Studios have confirmed that Lil’ Guardsman will release on Nintendo Switch “later this year.”

This narrative-driven deduction adventure has taken inspiration from the classic point-and-click genre and the gameplay mechanics from Papers, Please.

Set in a high-fantasy world “with the comedic sensibility of Monkey Island and other ’90s LucasArts adventure classics,” it stars the young Lil who must make tough decisions after she finds herself covering for her dad as the head castle guardsman.

You must interrogate fun and weird characters that are attempting to gain entry to the city walls, making use of your abilities to uncover mass conspiracies to protect the castle and your family from devious interlopers.

The publisher has outlined the game’s key features, which include:

  • Fantasy/Comedy Narrative: See the Sprawl and its fantastical and quirky citizens through a royal wedding to one of two kingdoms vying for an alliance, and a subsequent siege by whoever you’ve angered in the process. Your decisions can determine the fate of the city and its people!
  • Interrogation Puzzles: Interrogate 100+ fully voiced characters in just the right way to earn a perfect score.
  • Tools of the Trade: Spend your hard-earned gold wisely on powering up your guardsman toolkit, and strategically deploy these to admit or deny the right people or…goblins?
  • Rewind Time: Use your trusty Chronometer3000 to go back and get a higher score… but be careful not to break space and time in the process.

Lil’ Guardsman will release digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide “later this year.”
