Activision has cranked up the marketing machine behind Guitar Hero Live, sharing a new live action trailer that sees Lenny Kravitz and James Franco take each other on in the revived music franchise.

Directed by Jonathan Krisel, the “Win the Crowd” trailer sees the duo go head-to-head to score the highest in Kravitz’s hit “Are You Gonna Go My Way.” Activision will use this early stage of the marketing campaign to beckon what they believe is a new era in music games, and will push GH Live and GHTV.

“Guitar Hero Live gives you the chance to live out your rock star fantasy in front of a real audience that reacts to how you play, so watching James Franco and Lenny Kravitz challenging each other to win the crowd in the game brought that excitement to life in a really cool way,” comments Activision Publishing’s CMO Tim Ellis.

“Some of the best moments captured on film were purely spontaneous between James and Lenny. They had great chemistry and had a lot of fun with the game. We just let them loose.”

Guitar Hero Live will release for Wii U in North America on October 20th, and in Europe on October 23rd.
