Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has called on 16 new entertainment properties to build on what LEGO Dimensions achieved in the first year, which will add new four-player competitive Battle Arenas, Story Packs and characters.
These will start to arrive from September 30th, with the Ghostbusters Story Pack, Adventure Time and Mission: Impossible Level Packs, Harry Potter and Adventure Time Team Packs, and The A-Team Fun Pack.
Beyond this, more expansion packs are in the works that will take inspiration from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, The LEGO Batman Movie, The Goonies, Sonic The Hedgehog, Teen Titans Go!, LEGO City Undercover, Knight Rider, The Powerpuff Girls, Gremlins, Beetlejuice and E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.
The new Battle Arenas will let you take on family and friends in competitive split-screen local gameplay for up to four players. LEGO minifigures included in wave 6 through 9 expansion packs will come with special, golden Toy Tags that will unlcok a Battle Arena within the Free Play Adventure World of their respective brand. Each will have four different gameplay modes that each have their own traps, special powers and interactive environments.
The Ghostbusters Story Pack will have provide “a complete movie-based gameplay experience” with six puzzle-packed levels, and comes with new LEGO Gateway bricks that will let players build Zhu’s Chinese Restaurant on the LEGO Toy Pad. It will also have a buildable Abby Yates LEGO minifigure with Proton Blaster, and a 3-in-1 Ecto-1 which can be rebuilt into the Ectozer and The PerfEcto.
The pack will unlock “Rip,” a new Toy Pad mode that lets players tear open an alternate universe. In this mirror world, players will have the ability to solve puzzles and affect objects and other items in the primary universe. And, like all gold-tag minifigures purchased, Abby Yates provides access to a new themed Adventure World with its own unique Battle Arena.
The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Story Pack will release later in the year, inspired by J.K Rowling’s Wizarding World.
Such Story Packs will expand the Starter Pack story, which now sees the evil Lord Vortech having hidden portions of his powers around the LEGO Multiverse. Players will need to uncover new Keystone Runes to use his powers against him, with new Toy Pad modes.
No new Starter Pack will be required, and all expansion packs that have been released so far may be used interchangeably anywhere in the game.
LEGO Dimensions is now available on Wii U at retailers worldwide.
