As the recovery efforts continue across Japan, Konami have today posted an open letter from creator of the renowned Metal Gear Solid series, Hideo Kojima, regarding the disaster.

Whilst offering his condolences to those that were victims of the tragedy, Kojima discusses his role in providing “cheer and bringing encouragement to people around the world through the medium of entertainment,” whilst expressing that the country “should not abandon hope but look forward to the future and unite to restore Japan for the sake of the next generation.”

His full letter is as follows:

I would like to offer my deepest thoughts and my sincerest condolences for the many victims and many who lost their lives in the March 11, 2011 earthquake that struck the Tohoku region near the Pacific coast of Japan.

Our job is providing everyone with cheer and bringing encouragement to people around the world through the medium of entertainment and that is exactly the type of support that we can provide.

We are indeed facing an unprecedented situation that we have not experienced before. However, we should not abandon hope but look forward to the future and unite to restore Japan for the sake of the next generation.

May smiles return once again to the region struck by the disaster, to Japan, to our future, and to ourselves as well.

Lastly, I would like to share a line from Snake from MGS1.

Snake: “Spring brings new life to everything. It’s a time for hope.”
