Square Enix has confirmed a release date for Chocobo GP on Nintendo Switch, its “thrilling new kart racing experience set in the Chocobo universe.”

You will be able to dash to the finish line as the game’s namesake and star, Chocobo and friends, challenging you to conquer a racing tournament to win an unbelievable reward – a wish for anything that your heart desires – and master courses from well-known Chocobo and Final Fantasy series locations.

In addition to the Story Mode and 64-player knock-out style tournaments in Chocobo GP Mode, the game will also offer these game modes:

  • Time Attack: Players can challenge themselves to beat their personal best times on various courses. Players can also asynchronously race against others from around the world* to get the best time.
  • Series Race: Players will compete for the top spot in a series of four races; can be played alone or with friends.
  • Custom Race: Players can create their own challenging races with custom rules, both alone and with friends.

There will also be Chocobo GP Lite, which will be free to download from the Nintendo eShop. This will let you experience the Story Mode prologue in single-player mode as well as the chance to participate in both local and online multiplayer races with up to eight racers, as long as they are hosted by a friend who owns the full version.

Your save data can be carried over from Chocobo GP Lite to the full game, meaning that you will be able to keep any items or currency that you obtain while playing.

Chocobo GP and Chocobo GP Lite will release digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 10th March 2022.
