Microids has revealed that ’90s arcade classic Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja will “make its grand return” next year.

The arcade-platformer can be tackled solo or cooperatively with another player, with developer Mr. Nutz Studio behind remaking the arcade game for modern consoles. You can expect “a handful of new features” like an original adventure mode that contains brand new levels.

“We have full confidence in Microids and Mr. Nutz Studio capability to develop this remake of Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja,” affirms G-MODE Corporation’s Data East license producer Tosuke Matsuoka.

“It’s a real pleasure to see these iconic video game characters revived with today’s technology. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen these two characters, and their return will delight old fans and new players alike.”

Microids CEO Stéphane Longeard adds: “It’s a real honor to offer gamers the chance to rediscover these characters that marked their generation. We have full confidence in Mr. Nutz Studio to bring these little prehistoric men back to life.”

Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja will release digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide in 2022.
