Freedom! Games and BitBull have confirmed that Jetboard Joust will release on Nintendo Switch next week.

This sequel to 1989’s ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, and Amstrad CPC game Skateboard Joust, this is pitched as “a joyous fusion of classic arcade shoot-’em-ups and modern roguelikes.”

You will be challenged to soar around procedurally-generated circular arenas on a levitating jetboard, determined to defend civilians from intergalactic invaders.

After dogfighting the alien armadas, you will be faced with a challenging guardian that remains as the final obstacle between you and a treasure trove of loot.

To survive you will need to juggle weapon condition, ammo count and your shields, using the coins that you earn to buy weapon and jetboard upgrades or extra lives.

“When I developed the original Skateboard Joust as a kid in 1989, I never would have imagined one of my games would be available on a Nintendo console,” enthuses Bitbull founder James Closs. “So I am over the moon to be launching Jetboard Joust for Nintendo Switch on May 18!”

Jetboard Joust will release on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 18th May 2021.
