Today brought the tragic news that former Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi had passed away.
Having played a significant role in helping to shape the games industry as we know it today, he was also responsible for transitioning the handmade hanafuda card company into the gaming powerhouse that it is now recognised as being today.
In reaction to the news, Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata signalled that the company would “continue to treasure the values” that he had taught employees at the Kyoto outfit.
“We will continue to treasure the values Yamauchi taught us – that what makes you unique lies at the core of entertainment,” Iwata commented. “And we at Nintendo will continue to change the company flexibly to adapt to the times, as Yamauchi did, to carry on his spirit.”
