Iwata discusses Japan’s recovery following tragic events in March

IWATA

During Nintendo’s earnings press conference held in Osaka earlier today, President and CEO Satoru Iwata commented on the effects that the devastating earthquake and subsequent tsunami had impacted upon the games industry.

Iwata expressed his belief that he didn’t expect the Japanese market to recover until at least the end of the year, as reported by NHK.

The Nintendo 3DS failed to meet expectations for the year, Iwata explained, achieving sales of 3.61 million units instead of the 4 million that the company had previously forecast. He commented that he felt that the earthquake had dampened excitement for new products and that Nintendo would have to once again kick-start the platform. “We believe this to be a restart from zero,” he said.
