inkle has revealed that its next game A Highland Song is in development for Nintendo Switch.

Moira McKinnon has lived with her mum in a small house on the edge of the Scottish Highlands for fifteen years. When she receives a letter from her Uncle Hamish urging her to come to the coast, she sets out to reach his lighthouse in time for the solstice.

The Scottish Highlands are brought to life in this 2.5D side-scrolling adventure, which the developer has created “with a blend of hand-drawn animation, impressionistic painted scenery, and dynamic lighting/weather effects.”

With music from composer Laurence Chapman and two multi-award-winning Scottish folk artists, Talisk and Fourth Moon, every peak has a story to tell and every valley echoes with song. You must explore hills crisscrossed by routes, climbing peaks to orient yourself and plan your next steps – after which you will hop, slide and jump through the valleys in time with the music.

A Highland Song will release digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide, with a release window unconfirmed.
