Hyrule Warriors scores Two-Player Multiplayer Mode

Famitsu have already shared new Hyrule Warriors screenshots, but as the Japanese magazine’s cover story this week we were anticipating more news alongside that.

We learn that the game’s antagonist is a witch named Shia, who had been responsible for protecting the balance of the Triforce. Smitten with Link, who in this part of the timeline is training to be a soldier, she becomes jealous of the bond that he shares with Princess Zelda. Overcome by wickedness, she throws Hyrule into chaos with the aid of her two minions Valga and Wizro.

Developed by Omega Force and Team Ninja, with Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma in a supervisory role, Hyrule Warriors is said to be 70 percent complete and will be playable at E3 2014 in a few weeks time.

Impa, a Royal Army captain, has been confirmed as the second playable character, with Aonuma reportedly surprised at how many have so far been included within the game. She wields a longsword, with characters able to equip different weapons to change their attack style.

The Zelda series signature Z-targeting returns, which will help players avoid incoming attacks whilst slicing at weak spots, whereas Link’s spin attack will replace the Musou mode usually found in the Warriors series.

The magazine also touched upon a two-player mode, where one player will be using the TV whilst the other plays on the Wii U GamePad.

The Wii U exclusive will be available in a Premium Edition which includes a Triforce-shaped clock and codes to access six special in-game costumes, whilst a Treasure Box Edition has also been confirmed although the contents remain a mystery.

Hyrule Warriors will release for Wii U across Japan on August 14th, with no date yet set for a western release.
