There are 18 playable characters that you can unlock in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, a diverse selection as you battle against the might of Calamity Ganon to save the kingdom from destruction.

While you will naturally unlock the majority of the character roster through story progression, there are a handful that aren’t quite as obvious.

Please be aware that reading our below list of the playable characters in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will spoil some of the surprises that the game has to throw at you.

List of Playable Characters in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity

Unlock Requirements: Complete The Battle of Hyrule Field in Chapter 1.

Character Description: A skilled swordsman serving the royal family of Hyrule. Born to a line of imperial guards, he is renowned for his fighting skills and courage.

2. Impa

Unlock Requirements: Complete The Battle of Hyrule Field in Chapter 1.

Character Description: The adviser to Hyrule’s royal family and a revered member of the Sheikah tribe. She is dedicated to her work and known for being steadfast and diligent. She can be distractible at times.

3. Zelda

Unlock Requirements: Complete Road to the Ancient Lab in Chapter 1.

Character Description: The princess of Hyrule, in whose veins flows the blood of the goddess. She is devoted to researching ancient technology and awakening her sacred power.

4. Mipha

Unlock Requirements: Complete Mipha, the Zora Princess in Chapter 2.

Character Description: The princess of the Zora, who possesses an incredible healing power. She was childhood friends with Link. Now, she is entrusted with piloting Divine Beast Vah Ruta.

5. Daruk

Unlock Requirements: Complete Daruk, the Goron Hero in Chapter 2.

Character Description: A Goron warrior who possesses the power to deflect attacks. He cares deeply for his fellow Gorons. Now, he is entrusted with piloting Divine Beast Vah Rudania.

6. Revali

Unlock Requirements: Complete Revali, the Rito Warrior in Chapter 2.

Character Description: A gifted archer who has mastered an aerial move previously thought impossible. While boastful, he has the skills to back up his claims. Now, he is entrusted with piloting Divine Beast Vah Medoh.

7. Urbosa

Unlock Requirements: Complete Urbosa, the Gerudo Chief in Chapter 2.

Character Description: The chief of the Gerudo who possesses the power to command lightning itself. She was close friends with the late queen of Hyrule. Now, she is entrusted with piloting Divine Beast Vah Naboris.

8. Hestu

Unlock Requirements: Complete Freeing Korok Forest in Chapter 3.

Character Description: The musician of Korok Forest who loves to dance. He favors a set of maracas filled with Korok Seeds. Some believe his dancing possesses mystical power.

9. Sidon

Unlock Requirements: Complete Water and Fire in Chapter 5.

Character Description: The Zora prince from the future and younger brother to Champion Mipha. He is unwaveringly positive with a strong sense of duty. He fights for Hyrule and to save his sister.

10. Yunobo

Unlock Requirements: Complete Water and Fire in Chapter 5.

Character Description: A descendant of Champion Daruk, from the future. While he is a bit of a coward, he is brave when it counts. He fights for Hyrule and to save those he cares about.

11. Teba

Unlock Requirements: Complete Air and Lightning in Chapter 5.

Character Description: A Rito warrior from the future who idolizes Champion Revali. He is peerless in the art of flying and devoted to training. He can also be quick to anger.

12. Riju

Unlock Requirements: Complete Air and Lightning in Chapter 5.

Character Description: A descendant of Champion Urbosa, from the future. She assumed the mantle of Gerudo chief when she was only a child. She fights fearlessly to protect her people.

13. Master Kohga

Unlock Requirements: Complete Each Step Like Thunder in Chapter 6.

Character Description: The Chief of the Yiga Clan and a uniting force for his unwavering followers. He leaves all tasks, save napping, to his underlings. He works with the Hyrulean army to get revenge for his fallen friends.

14. King Rhoam

Unlock Requirements: Complete The Great Plateau in Chapter 7.

Character Description: The king of Hyrule and father to Zelda. He leads the Hyrulean army. He is intent on stopping the Calamity and restoring peace to the world.

15. Great Fairies

Unlock Requirements: Complete the Offering Help on the Road Challenge to qualify for the Trial of the Great Fairies. After this complete the Fairy Fountain: Battlefield, Fairy Fountain: Deep Snows, Fairy Fountain: Desert Sands, and Fairy Fountain: Grassy Plains Challenges.

Character Description: Four sisters called Tera, Kaysa, Mija, and Cotera. They are residents of secret fountains hidden across Hyrule. They have temporarily gathered in a single bud to aid Link.

16. Monk Maz Koshia

Unlock Requirements: Complete The Trial of the Mighty Foe, The Trial of Monsters, and The Trial of Stones Quests. After this, complete the Trial of the Ancients Challenge.

Character Description: A powerful Sheikah monk from 10,000 years past. He is one of the few who received a revelation from the Goddess Hylia. He has awaited the chosen hero’s arrival within the shrine of trials.

17. Terrako

Unlock Requirements: After completing every story chapter, collect the 50 Terrako Components needed to complete the Terrako’s Return Challenge.

Character Description: A tiny Guardian who has traveled from the future to save Zelda. It was broken in the fight against the Calamity but has now been repaired and reactivated thanks to the efforts of Link and the others.

18. Calamity Ganon

Unlock Requirements: After unlocking Terrako, complete the Versus Calamity Ganon Challenge.

Character Description: A new incarnation of Ganon, born after absorbing Astor’s power. He was revived to bring Hyrule to ruin and has now been sealed away by Link, Zelda, and the others.
