As any good beat-em-up should, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game Complete Edition features a few hidden unlockable characters for the completionists out there. They’re worth the effort, and here’s how to unlock them all.

1. Knives Chau

Knives Chau was the first DLC character added to the game’s original release, and she is unlockable from the start here by connecting to Ubisoft Connect. Doing so will unlock her straight-away. There isn’t another known way to unlock her currently.

Knives acts as a semi-clone character of Kim, featuring some of her moves alongside a few of her own.

2. Wallace Wells

Wallace was the second DLC character to be added to the game, and is available as soon as you start. Unlike Knives you don’t need to do any extra steps to get him.

Similarly to how Knives was a clone of Kim, Wallace is a clone of Stephen Stills but with some unique animations. Both him and Knives have their own ending but (spoiler alert) Wallace’s is not worth it at all, despite being a reference to Streets of Rage.

3. Nega-Scott

Nega-Scott acts as the true unlockable character in the game and will only come to those who really beat the game. That means finishing the game as all four of the main characters, including Scott, Stephen, Ramona and Kim. You don’t have to beat the game as Knives or Wallace to unlock Nega-Scott.

Nega-Scott plays like Scott but with a few different moves from his boss battle and a new assist with Nega-Knives. You’ll want to unlock him if you’re a fan of Scott Pilgrim, but it might not be worth beating the game four times otherwise.

4. Mr. Chau

Although he’s not technically a playable character, you can unlock Mr. Chau as an additional summon by defeating him in battle.

Finding Mr. Chau is pretty much completely random. He’ll appear on the overworld map at random after finishing a stage, and there’s no real way to influence it. Your best method is to keep repeating mission 2 from the parking lot, as you can beat Lucas Lee in less than a minute from there. He’ll eventually appear on the map after enough finished levels.

Once you’ve run into him, you’ll need to defeat him. It’s a hard battle if your character isn’t levelled up, but by the time you run into him you’ll likely have a fully-levelled fighter, making this fight a breeze.

Beating him will unlock him as a bonus summon for your characters to use. He’s much stronger than Knives as you’d probably expect, and his boss battle is the last true bit of special content in the game.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game Complete Edition is now available on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
