Square Enix has revealed that you can unlock 0 to 400% encounter rate settings in Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster on Nintendo Switch 2.
From achieving set scores in the new minigames – Luxencheer Rhythm Catch and Ringabel’s Panic Cruise – you will be rewarded with new notes to read and tokens that can be exchanged for accessories “that allow the encounter rate to be set from 0 to 400% and costumes to change characters’ appearances.”
Cattle Call is the developer behind the game, which has most recently worked on games such as The Legend of Legacy, The Alliance Alive, Metal Max Xeno and Dungeon Encounters.
The fan-favourite role-playing game is set in Luxendarc, a world where four elemental crystals maintain peace and balance. After darkness suddenly emerges from the Great Chasm, the Warriors of Light must set out on an adventure to save the world from calamity.
You will join Agnès Oblige, the vestal of the Wind Crystal, Tiz Arrior, a kind shepherd and sole survivor of the Great Chasm that engulfed his hometown, Edea Lee, the only daughter of the grand marshal of the Duchy of Eternia, Ringabel, an amnesiac young man with a mysterious journal that has chronicled future events and Airy, a cryst-fairy, on a quest to restore light to the crystals and bring peace to the world.
With an unforgettable story, iconic characters designed by Akihiko Yoshida (Final Fantasy Tactics, NieR:Automata) and a larger-than-life soundtrack from Revo, the HD remaster has been treated to updated graphics and new content which Square Enix sees as being “perfect for long-time fans to revisit the world of Luxendarc and for newcomers alike.”
The publisher has outlined the game’s key features, which include:
- High definition graphics: You don’t need us to tell you the graphics have been improved – the screenshots and trailer speak for themselves. In new super-crispy HD, the warm picture book-style visuals are more beautiful than ever.
- Redesigned user interface: The original game released on Nintendo 3DS, so naturally the game’s been reworked to play on a single screen. Quality of life features implemented in other series games, like a ‘Heal All’ button and recommended character levels for dungeons, are also in this game!
- Fast Forward: Enjoy the game at your pace. In addition to the original feature that battles can be made up to 4x faster, event scenes can also be fast forwarded at double speed while autoplay is selected.
- Encounter rate settings: Same as the original version, you can change the rate of random encounters to your liking, from 0 to 400%, at any time from the field map. Whether you want to explore with less danger or keep the foes a-coming to build that valuable experience, the power is in your hands!
- Online compatibility: The networking features used in the original version on Nintendo 3DS have been retooled for the Nintendo Switch 2’s free network connectivity. Whether you work together with allies from your platform’s friend list or power through the adventure on your own is up to you.
- New minigames: You can take a break from adventuring to enjoy two different types of all-new minigames. Playing these awards various bonuses, including newly added notes in D’s Journal that reveal previously untold facets of the story!
Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster will be released at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 5 June 2025.
