Walking Pokémon return in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl. For all we know, it can get cramped inside a Poké Ball and this fan-favourite addition will let you adventure across the Sinnoh region with your loyal pocket monster alongside you. However, you will need to unlock the ability for your Pokémon to follow you first.
To do so, you will need to make your way to Amity Square which can be found in Hearthome City. To enter Amity Square, you will be asked to select “a cute Pokémon” that you can go for a stroll with.
Whether a Pokémon is cute or not is entirely subjective, of course. However, there aren’t actually that many that you can choose from to enter Amity Square with, meaning that you will need one of the following:
- Buneary
- Chimchar
- Clefairy
- Drifloon
- Empoleon
- Grotle
- Happiny
- Infernape
- Jigglypuff
- Monferno
- Pachirisu
- Pikachu
- Piplup
- Prinplup
- Psyduck
- Shroomish
- Skitty
- Torchic
- Torterra
- Turtwig
After you have entered Amity Square for the first time, whenever you choose to leave the receptionist will say that the Pokémon that was having a stroll with you “wants to go out.” This means that it no longer wants to stay cooped up inside its Poké Ball, to which it is explained that “only special Trainers can make their Pokémon feel that way.”
From this point, you will be able to select any Pokémon to follow you at any time when you are outdoors in the Sinnoh region. To do so, simply head to the Pokémon team screen from the in-game menu, select whichever Pokémon you would like as your travel companion and choose the “walk together” option. That Pokémon will then be marked with a star on the left-hand side, to show which you have chosen.
