Read Princess Zelda’s Diary at her home in Hateno Village, and you will learn that she ordered a new and improved Champion’s Tunic for Link to wear on his adventures in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (TotK).

After observing that Link’s loyalty to remain at her side “has taken a visible toll on his clothing,” she hides it in the throne room of Hyrule Castle and hopes to surprise him with it after their investigation is complete. Given that Princess Zelda goes missing at the start of the game, we’re sure that she wouldn’t mind us helping you recover it in her absence.

You can retrieve the Champion’s Leathers – the armor that Link is seen wearing on the Nintendo Switch exclusive’s box art – whether you choose to visit Hateno Village to trigger the side quest A New Champion’s Tunic or not. However, you will need to be able to reach Hyrule Castle – now torn from the ground and held in the sky after the Upheaval.

Early on in the game, your quickest route to access it will be to activate the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower (-293, 0137, 0025) to launch yourself into the clouds and then use your Paraglider to glide northwards. You will likely need to complete enough Shrines of Light to expand your Stamina Wheel though, as it took us 1.5 wheels to reach it safely.

Once there, head into the Sanctum (-0254, 1060, 0335) and up the stairs to the throne (-0253, 1084, 0348). Zelda’s Diary entry provides the clue that “the torches are the key,” and you will soon notice that there are two situated in front of the remaining throne. You will need to ignite these torches, the easiest method likely to be using a Flame Fruit to attach to an arrow.

After they are lit, a compartment behind the throne will open to reveal the Champion’s Leathers for you to collect as a reward for your puzzle-deducing efforts. The in-game description for these reads: “This garment, worn by those in good standing with Hyrule royalty, has been reworked with the latest improvements, such as a new shoulder guard.”

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now available at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
