Nintendo has revealed how you can change the Spin Jump controls in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe on Nintendo Switch, a technique that can be used to extend your time in the air.

These controls have been changed compared to the original Wii U game, which has, understandably, confused some players. And so, Nintendo has provided a workaround to swap them back, which will require that you use a specific button input on the title screen.

“With the Spin Jump technique, you can slightly extend your time in the air, allowing characters to get to those hard-to-reach areas or boost to the top of a Goal Pole. By default, you can perform this move by simply pushing the jump button again while in mid-air,” Nintendo explains.

“Some folks may notice that this technique’s controls were different in the Wii U system’s version of the game. If you’re used to performing the Spin Jump with the previous controls, you can swap to that classic style by holding down the L Stick for three seconds at the title screen and then, while the L Stick is held down, pressing the L Button and R Button as well to start the game.

“When the setting has been changed successfully, you’ll hear Nabbit give you a confirmation squeak. While playing with this setting changed, press the ZR Button or R Button to perform a Spin Jump.”

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is now available exclusively for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
