How to Change Link’s Hair in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

Let’s face it, Link’s hair is looking particularly scruffy in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (TotK). Luckily, you can change Link’s hairstyle in the game and we’re here to tell you how.

To do so, you will need to make your way to Hateno Village. It’s a fair trek southeast from Lookout Landing in Hyrule Field, although the path is straightforward if you follow the road east and then south before passing through Kakariko Village to get there. You won’t run into much trouble if this is something that you would like to do early in the game.

Once there, you will want to vist the house above Firly Pond (3320, -2278, 0130). This appears to be Princess Zelda’s house, and where she has chosen to live since the concluding events of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Head inside and you will be able to read Zelda’s Journal, which, aside from discussing her desire to rebuild Hyrule, reveals that she asked Bolson to add a “secret room” to her house that “won’t appear on the plans” and is “dim but humidity- and temperature-controlled.” This hidden room can actually be found behind the house, down in Zelda’s Secret Well (3301, -2300, 0129).

This is where we want to explore, so either recklessly leap in or more carefully climb down the ladder. You will discover an area where Princess Zelda could work alone when she needed to concentrate, but, more importantly, in a treasure chest next to her desk you can retrieve the Well-Worn Hair Band. You can also read Zelda’s Diary on the desk, which will trigger the side quest A New Champion’s Tunic.

This headwear item has no armor rating, but will allow Link to tie his hair back to match his appearance in the original game. The hair band’s in-game description suggests as much: “An old, worn, simple hair band. Its color has long faded, but is still has some life left in it. Wearing it in your hair makes you sentimental about times past.”

It’s worth mentioning that there are other options than Link’s classic look from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, too, such as the Snowquill Headdress which you can buy in the Rito Village and the Desert Voe Headband which can be bought at Kara Kara Bazaar.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now available at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide.
