Hironobu Sakaguchi Confirms Mistwalker Return To Console Development

Leading a creative media masterclass at Hawaii’s UH West O’ahu Library, Mistwalker founder Hironobu Sakaguchi has confirmed that the studio has returned to console development.

Sharing artwork penned by character designer Kimihiko Fujisaka, Sakaguchi didn’t have that much else to share about the project. It is aimed to see release on current-gen consoles, and will use an art style that, while 3D, will look sketched with visible pencil lines.

We were last able to savour the Final Fantasy creator’s direction in Wii’s The Last Story, the studio having since gone on to develop Terra Battle for smart devices.

Whether it could see release on Wii U, Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo NX is unclear, but given Sakaguchi’s recent involvement with Nintendo we’re hopeful. He expects to share more news in a year’s time.
