Hörberg Productions has revealed that Gunman Clive HD Collection has been a profitable project for the developer on Wii U.

The high-definition package has seen sales surpass 9,000 copies since it released last September, which creator Bertil Hörberg positioned as being around 10 times stronger than those that Gunman Clive 2 saw on Steam.

While admitting that the sales were “not an amazing number by any means,” he attributed the lack of larger success to an audience overlap with those that have already purchased the western-inspired platformers on Nintendo 3DS.

“For some slight bit of context Gunman Clive HD Collection has sold about 9000 copies so far (not counting Japan, for which I don’t have numbers yet but the initial reports were not very encouraging),” Hörberg wrote on NeoGAF.

“Not an amazing number by any means still profitable by most measures: And also I imagine there’s a pretty big overlap of 3DS and Wii U owners so it’s not a big surprise that people aren’t double dipping. It’s about 10x the sales of the Steam release of GC2 however. Admittedly I’ve done an even worse job at promoting that release though and also don’t have many press contacts who focus on PC.”

We rather enjoyed Gunman Clive HD Collection, concluding in our review: “At £3.59 ($4.99), Gunman Clive HD Collection is an absolute steal on the Nintendo eShop. These western-themed adventures are action packed, and still represent some of the very best that have graced Nintendo’s digital storefront.”
