Bowser has been crowned the greatest video game villain of all time, revealed within the pages of the new Guinness World Records 2013 Gamer’s Edition.

They polled over 5000 of their readers to determine the Top 50 Video Game Villains of All Time, with the Mario series antagonist claiming 20% of votes to take the top spot and knocking Portal’s GLaDOS into second place.

The remainder of the top five saw The Joker in Batman: Arkham Asylum in third, The Legend of Zelda’s Ganon in fourth, and Gary Oak from Pokemon Red and Blue in fifth.

“It was really interesting for us to put the vote out to our readers and see who their favourite villain was – Bowser’s top place is no big shocker, but there certainly are surprises in there,” Guinness World Records 2013 Gamer’s Edition writer Kevin Lynch comments.

“I think what this list really reflects is that video game villains tend to be a lot cooler than the heroes they’re pitted against.”

The full list is featured in the new Guinness World Records 2013 Gamer’s Edition book out now for £9.99.
