Golden Week heralds Nintendo sales surge

Japan’s public holiday period, known as Golden Week, has proved particularly successful for Nintendo.

They readily dominated the software sales chart, with one Nintendo DS, five Wii and nine Nintendo 3DS titles placing within the top twenty.

Mario Party 9 was top of the pack, with Fire Emblem Awakening, Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 also making the top five.

The latest software chart, which covers April 30th – May 6th, is as follows:

4. Super Mario 3D Land, Nintendo
5. Mario Kart 7, Nintendo

8. Mario & Sonic at the 2012 London Olympics, SEGA
9. Conception Please Give Birth to My Children, Spike Chunsoft
10. Wii Sports Resort Wiimote Plus Pack, Nintendo
11. Pro Baseball Spirits 2012, Konami
12. Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Square Enix
13. Pokemon + Nobunaga’s Ambition, Tecmo Koei
14. Dynasty Warriors VS, Tecmo Koei
15. Wii Party, Nintendo
16. Pro Baseball Spirits 2012, Konami
17. Mario Kart Wii, Nintendo

Hardware also saw similar success with the Nintendo 3DS retaining its position atop the chart, achieving sales of 91,868 units:
