Ichigoichie has revealed that its time-based music puzzler Backbeat is coming to Nintendo Switch later this year.
The game’s story follows the aspiring bassist Watts, who becomes captured by the magic of funk music and her newly recruited bandmates as they take on art school darlings La Tormenta at the epic Battle of the Bands.
You must guide Watts and her friends through more than 40 levels crammed with “strategic puzzling madness,” as they work to break free from their monotonous lives and achieve stardom.
That will see you use turn-based music-making to slide past bad-tempered shift managers, suspicious security guards and sticky-fingered children to have the chance to perform at gigs and win yourself legions of fans. Over time, your success will unlock new music, improvisational tricks and stylish locales that are “drenched in desaturated 1990s American suburbia.”
The developer has outlined the game’s key features as below:
- Rewindable, multilinear time-based environment puzzles;
- Player-controlled songs created from your movement choices;
- Real-life jam band music rules and tricks for maximizing your score;
- Character-driven story set exploring dogma, adversity, and the lure of success.
Backbeat will release digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide in Q3 2022.
