The Pokémon Company International and Game Freak have revealed more about Tera Raid Battles in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, out on Nintendo Switch this month.

You will discover black Tera Raid crystals as you adventure in the Paldea region, from which you will face Pokémon that are much stronger than those that appear in ordinary Tera Raid Battles and will only be available for a limited time. Successfully defeat these Pokémon, and you will earn rewards that “are even more exciting than usual.”

From Friday 2nd – Sunday 4th December and Friday 16th – Sunday 18th December 2022, you will be able to encounter Charizard with the Mightiest Mark in black crystal Tera Raid Battles. The Flame Pokémon cannot normally be encountered in Paldea, meaning that you won’t want to miss out on being able to catch it – especially as it has Dragon as its Tera Type.

You will need to complete “certain postgame events” to be able to take on Tera Raid Battles at black crystals, although those who haven’t beaten the game can still join other Trainers in multiplayer by using a Link Code.

After the game’s launch, Game Freak will also rotate Tera Raid Battle events that will present the chance “to take on specific Pokémon or encounter Pokémon with certain Tera Types more frequently.” The first will be the Eevee Spotlight from Friday 25th – Sunday 27th November 2022, during which Eevee with various Tera Types will appear more frequently in Tera Raid Battles.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet are promised to “take a new evolutionary step in the Pokémon main series,” with players offered the chance to “explore an open world where various towns with no borders blend seamlessly into the wilderness.” You will see Pokémon everywhere in this “wide-open world,” whether in the skies, in the sea, or on the streets.

You will start your adventure in the Paldea region, which is described as being “a land of vast open spaces dotted with lakes, towering peaks, wastelands, and mountain ranges.” There are lots of people and Pokémon living together in a variety of locations, such as “a farming village with bountiful harvests to a port town with a bustling marketplace.” Pokémon also call treetops, rivers, and other locations in the wilderness their homes.

At the heart of the Paldea region is its largest city, Mesagoza. It is here that you will find either Naranja Academy or Uva Academy, with their name, emblem and uniforms differing depending on whether you choose to play Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet.

The Pokédex will be loaded on your Rotom Phone as an app, as well as a map app that will let you see the entire Paldea region, your current location and information like nearby towns, Pokémon Centers and wild Pokémon.

After their release, Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will be able to link with Pokémon HOME, a service that allows you to keep your entire Pokémon collection in one place. By linking these games with Pokémon HOME, you will be able to have Pokémon from other regions adventure alongside them in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will release at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch worldwide on 18th November 2022.
