Over 1.2 million pre-orders for Wii U software have been placed at US retailer GameStop, Gamasutra report.

This is more than double that seen with Wii launch titles back in 2006, and, with the retailer having sold out of its 500,000 console allocation, means that consumers are purchasing 2.4 games per console.

GameStop revealed that the most pre-ordered titles include Assassin’s Creed III, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, New Super Mario Bros. U, Scribblenauts Unlimited and ZombiU.
