GameStop Cancelling Nintendo Switch Pre-Orders

With Nintendo forecasting to ship two million consoles around the world in March, it seems to be a given that we should expect there to be Nintendo Switch stock shortages.

As the company starts to confirm stock allocation to their retail partners, slightly concerning news is that GameStop has started to cancel pre-orders. Reddit user wiiUowner shares that their online pre-order for Nintendo Switch and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Master Edition has been cancelled.

With confirmation that there has been no issue with their card service, GameStop was unable to specify a reason as to why the pre-order had been cancelled when contacted and, to make matters worse, were unable to reinstate the pre-order as there was no longer any stock available.

Replies on Reddit have been kind, those with backup pre-orders offering to step in and help out but it remains a mystery as to why pre-orders are randomly being cancelled.

Another Reddit user KravenLupei has shared a similar tale, after GameStop implied that there had been “issues with PayPal,” although, after multiple calls to make complaints to the retailer’s customer service team, their pre-order was eventually reinstated.

Nintendo Switch will launch worldwide on Friday 3rd March, priced at £279.99 ($299.99).

  1. Gamestop has said they are canceling the orders of those who have preordered at more than one store as that is against policy.
