GameStop Cancelling Fire Emblem Fates Special Edition Pre-Orders

GameStop has notified stores warning that Fire Emblem Fates Special Edition pre-orders placed after November 18th must be cancelled.

That’s according to a leaked internal memo, which suggests that reservations of their allocated stock had been met by such date but that “a system glitch” had allowed more pre-orders to be made.

It will no doubt come as a disappointment to those that believed their copy secured, especially as the Special Edition provides early access to Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation.

“Due to the popularity of Fire Emblem, we quickly reached our allocation on this Special Edition after reservations were first turned on,” the internal memo reads. “Once we met our allocation on 11/18/15, reservations for this Special Edition were turned off. Unfortunately, due to a system glitch, this SKU was mistakenly turned back on for reserve after 11/18/15, and additional reservations were taken in stores. Due to this glitch, we over-reserved on this Special Edition in stores, and unfortunately will not have enough product to cover these additional reserves.

“Any customer that reserved the Fire Emblem Fates Special Edition (017)119891 in stores after 11/18/15 will not receive this product.

“Please call your customers that reserved this SKU after 11/18/15 to let them know that due to this unfortunate system glitch, their reservation has been cancelled. As always, they can either cancel their reservation to get their money back, or roll their reservation over to a different product. The regular editions of Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright and Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest are still available to reserve.”

Fire Emblem Fates will release exclusively for Nintendo 3DS across North America on February 19th, and in Europe in 2016.
