GameStop have moved to disperse rumours that Donkey Kong 3D is currently in development for Nintendo 3DS.

It had been previously reported that an Australian EB Games store, owned by GameStop, had displayed placeholder box art for the unannounced game in-store, and were openly taking pre-orders.

“The displays were not supplied by Nintendo and have been taken down,” a GameStop representative clarified to Kotaku. “It’s definitely not in the system in the US I’m sure it’s not elsewhere, either, but I can’t confirm that”.

Nintendo themselves generically stated that they don’t comment on rumours or speculation in regards to the situation.

We’ll have to await to see what secrets E3 2012 presents in June…
