Game Freak has expressed their deepest gratitude to those that have played Nintendo 3DS exclusives Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon, and promised that they will continue to “hype up” the Pokémon brand in 2018.

“Happy New Year. In 2017 we were able to release Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon, and we express our deep gratitude to everyone who has been playing it. In 2018 we will still continue to hype up Pokémon, so please look forward to it,” Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon director Kazumasa Iwao enthused to Weekly Famitsu (translated by Japanese Nintendo).

After an early rumour about Pokémon Stars, The Pokémon Company president and CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara pondered the brand’s future on Nintendo Switch before announcing at E3 2017 that a core Pokémon RPG title was in development.

Ishihara and Junichi Masuda would then go on to hint at what we could expect for the pocket monsters arrival on the portable home console, but we’re still waiting on the first news on what the game will involve.

Iwao’s ambition to “hype up” the brand could also relate to Detective Pikachu, a live-action movie that will star Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, and Ryan Reynolds. There’s also an episodic Nintendo 3DS game that we can expect to be localised for release.
