The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild received a version 1.3.1 software update on Nintendo Switch earlier this week, with which Nintendo explained that they would start to gift players in-game items from “certain articles” distributed on a News channel.

That News channel, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Tips from the Wild, has sent out the first article, in which game director Hidemaro Fujibayashi explains that he hopes to provide players with some useful tips about Link’s open-air adventure.

The first is about the dogs that you can befriend at stables who will guide you to a nearby secret if you feed them, and, in looking to help those that didn’t realise, players can receive two apples and one piece of meat as a free in-game gift.

“On your journey, you may have already come across some of the many stables dotted across Hyrule. But did you know that you can befriend the dogs at these stables?” Fujibayashi asks.

“The dogs will start to like you if you spend time with them, so stand nearby and be good company. Once they’re happy, try feeding them three pieces of meat or three pieces of fruit. They may even find you a nice surprise in return!

“Please accept this in-game gift of two apples and one piece of meat to help you make a friend. The items will appear in your game if you open it using the link below. Just make sure that you either have the game card inserted of the downloadable version of the software installed on your console. We hope you enjoy making some furry friends!”

Nintendo adds that you must have obtained the paraglider before you can receive these items and that you may not be able to receive them at some in-game locations such as shrines and dungeons or on certain terrain.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is now available exclusively for Nintendo Switch and Wii U worldwide.
