Today’s Nintendo Direct revealed Pokémon Shuffle, a free-to-play puzzler for Nintendo 3DS that will shortly be available through the Nintendo eShop.

Similarly to Pokémon Link: Battle!, players will take on wild Pokémon by matching three or more Pokémon in the Puzzle Area to deal damage – reducing its HP to zero within the number of moves available. Considering the strengths and weaknesses of each Pokémon type is key to victory, while Pokémon can be levelled and Mega Evolve to improve your odds of success.

You will begin the game with five Hearts with one being used every time that you play a stage. Once they deplete, you will have to wait for them to replenish or continue playing by using items either earned or purchased through the Nintendo eShop.

Pokémon Shuffle will release exclusively for Nintendo 3DS through the Nintendo eShop in February.
