ATLUS has announced that its acclaimed fantasy RPG Metaphor: ReFantazio is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, news that was shared in today’s Nintendo Direct presentation.
After his assassination, the will of the late king decrees that the people will elect the next monarch. You must rise above fear as you enter a vast fantasy world that is fraught with unsettling mystery. Thrust into a kingdom on the precipice of ruin, you must overcome obstacles and forge bonds with allies in order to control your destiny.
Having sold one million copies on launch day to become ATLUS’ fastest-selling game to date, it was one of 2024’s most critically acclaimed games of 2024 with a 94 Metacritic score, and secured wins at The Game Awards across the Best Role-Playing Game, Best Narrative and Best Art Direction categories.
“In Metaphor: ReFantazio, through the classic genre of fantasy, I wanted to portray the feeling that ‘the world can change’ – and that ‘you yourself can also change,'” explains game director Katsura Hashino.
“When we completed the development of the game, I honestly didn’t know how far that message would reach. But the fact that so many more people around the world played it than we ever expected, and that we received so many kind words from players saying it was ‘fun’ and ‘a great experience’ – that has been a tremendous source of encouragement for us as we take on new challenges going forward.
“And now, I am truly happy that we are able to bring this game to even more people on new hardware. I hope that for someone out there, this game will be the starting point of a new journey.”

Metaphor: ReFantazio will be released at retail and digitally on the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo Switch 2 worldwide on 12 November 2026.
