Final Fantasy XV Switch Tease Was “A Joke Response”

Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata had teased that a project related to the JRPG was in development for Nintendo Switch, with the team working hard to explore what would be possible on the portable home console.

But, in an interview with Kotaku, it has emerged that Nintendo had contacted him soon after his comments, to which he is unable to say what they spoke about.

As for his tease, Tabata is now, oddly, positioning his remarks as “a joke response,” although reiterates that they are continuing to experiment with the hardware to see what opportunities it can present.

“It was just kind of a joke response,” he explained. “That said, we aren’t dismissing the hardware in any way. We believe it’s a great platform, and we’re open to looking for opportunities. And if the opportunity presents itself, and there’s something we can do on that given platform, we’d like to do it.”

He also added that he has been unable to buy a Nintendo Switch, although has already purchased The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Splatoon 2

“I’ve already purchased all this software,” Tabata explained. “I have Zelda, Mario Kart, and Splatoon. I just haven’t been able to purchase the hardware.”
